Phoenix Fitness Centre and Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool has reopened after a long time closed - and we missed it. We have been so busy of late that it just went past us.

The Pool was reopened by Richard Caborn [LINK] one month ago.

"GLL" are managing the facility and you can click here for their press release

The new Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool features: a 25m lane pool plus learners’/children's pool, sauna, lounge and viewing area; five lanes for swimmers in the main pool; full accessibility for disabled swimmers, with a further lane of the main pool providing an access ramp for wheelchair users.

Also among the guests were members of Janet Adegoke’s family, including her daughter Jumoke and two sons Rotimi and Kunle. The old leisure centre was named as a tribute to Janet, a former Hammersmith & Fulham mayor and the first black woman in London to be made a mayor. The new swimming pool retains her name – a move which has delighted the family, who want Janet’s legacy of helping the community to be remembered.

Mr Caborn, who was also attending a west London conference in support of London’s plans for the 2012 Olympic Games today, said: “High quality community sports facilities are vital for the  health and fitness of our nation and to encourage young people to take part in sports. These fantastic new leisure facilities in the heart of White City are an asset to the whole community and, together with the newly-refurbished Linford Christie Outdoor Sports Centre, represent an impressive commitment by Hammersmith & Fulham Council to the well-being of local people and the development of sporting talent for the 2012 Olympic Games and beyond.”

"Sports trust Greenwich Leisure (GLL) has been appointed to manage a new swimming pool in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

The £4m Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool has been built next to the existing Phoenix Fitness Centre and the two facilities will share a main entrance and both be run by GLL.

The new swimming pool, which replaces the old Janet Adegoke Centre in White City, will open to the public in January and include a 25m lane pool, a children’s pool, a sauna, lounge and viewing area. It will be fully accessible for disabled users.

Both the pool and Phoenix Fitness Centre were built through a partnership between the council and Phoenix High School."
