Uxbridge Lido plans move into final phase

It's great to see Hillingdon are going public on their website about their aspiration to secure a 50-metre pool.

Hillingdon are keen to see a 50-metre pool on the site for Ruislip-Northwood Swim Squad and other local swimmers.

There is a Petition being created to ensure that funding is found for a 50-metre pool that you can sign HERE.

"Hillingdon Council's plans for Uxbridge Lido, a multi-million pound swimming and leisure complex with the potential for an Olympic training pool, move into their final phase this month.

The extent of the development now rests on the success of the council's bids for top up funding made to both Sport England and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Hillingdon has earmarked £20m from its own resources for a 25-metre indoor pool, sports hall and fitness centre. The complex will be built next to the 1930's Uxbridge open air pool, a grade 11 listed building which will be refurbished.
But the council requires additional funding of around £7m in order to provide a 50-metre Olympic size indoor pool and to help return the open air pool to its former glory."

UXBRIDGE LIDO PLANS FLOATED

Uxbridge Lido Action Group report "Work has begun on the running track, which is part of the sports complex. Funding still has to be obtained for the pools. The plan is for an indoor Olympic pool alongside a refurished outdoor pool. The downside is that the two shallow ends will be converted to baby pools and the large building on the east side will overshadow the pool, envelope the the cafe and block the view over the countryside". More information from Edmund O'Brien 01865 632360

Lots of information, including architects models, of the plans for Uxbridge Lido and adjacent sports complex, as well as old pictures of the lido on Hillingdon Council website here and a bit about Uxbridge lido on our website here and the wonderful Lido website here.

"OLYMPIC swimmers and athletes could have new training
facilities in Uxbridge by 2007 at a multimillion pound, state-of-the-
art leisure complex that is already starting to take shape.

With the option for a 25 or 50-metre length indoor pool, Uxbridge
Lido will also include a sports hall and fitness centre linked to the
1930s Uxbridge open-air pool, a Grade II listed building, which is to
be completely renovated.
Situated off Park Road, the complex is a short distance from Uxbridge
town centre and main road and rail links."

Uxbridge Lido, update from the council

I note the concerns about the renovation of the [Uxbridge] Lido and that some people may think that it will be overshadowed by the new sports and leisure facility. However, if you access our web site, http://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/education/amr, which shows the proposed details of the design and how the whole scheme is to be configured you will find that not only will the Lido be a major centre of attraction during the summer months but that it will continue to be the focal point of the facility throughout the year. A unique setting for a Lido that assures it's long term future.

In addition to the above I am pleased to inform you that Hillingdon Council has also approved plans for a new 25m swimming pool and leisure centre in Hayes. Details of this are also available on our web site.
Regards
Bill King
AMR Projects Director
London Borough of Hillingdon
We are sorry for the delay in posting this news item. We welcome submissions from Councillors and Council Officers to give us good news or offer clarifications.
