  • London Fields Users Group has done a great job regarding the refurbishment of the Lido and I am really excited by the prospect of having a working pool in Hackney. However, there are a couple of points I hope you will take on board ???

One does not (hopefully) refer to THE blacks, or THE ethnics; so please don't refer to "THE DISABLED" in your literature. In future literature please refer to "disabled people". [But NEVER "people with disabilities"; we are not disabled because of our impairments, we are disabled by society because of its attitude towards our impairments]. Secondly, I notice that the plans refer to a "DISABLED WC". As you probably know, Hackney is full of disabled loos, i.e. blocked ones, broken ones and vandalised ones. Unless you are already making a prediction here, I assume that what you are trying to refer to is an "ACCESSIBLE WC". Furthermore, I would suggest that you propose that ALL the WCs are accessible, then mums (and dads) with kids in pushchairs, large people and those with heavy bags, etc, can all benefit from accessible WCs. Many thanks, John
