We're holding a street party to celebrate the centenary of Haggerston Pool. It's on Saturday June 26th from 2pm til 8pm in Laburnum St, E2 which is the small street at the back of Haggerston Pool running between Queensbridge Road and Kingsland Road next to the canal. ...more ---> ...

I used to swim in Haggerston pool in the later 80's - I lived just the other side of Hackney Fields and also swam in the Lido there. I have just found the webpage for Haggerston and am staggered at this waste of a resource - the picture on this website showing the pool no longer in use and in a sorry state has left me feeling sad about the wasted potential of a great pool. I do so hope that it can be re-opened. I remember swimming the Penguin Swimathon in Haggerston in 1988 - 5000 metres in 1 hour 47 minutes - it was an achievement for me and one I enjoyed so much in the wonderful setting there.
