"Construction of the aquatics venue for the 2012 London Olympics will begin this summer after city officials approved the plan. The 17,500-capacity center will host swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, the water polo finals and the swimming portion of the modern pentathlon.

The Olympic Delivery Authority said Wednesday that construction on the aquatics venue would begin before the Beijing Games in August and will be completed in 2011."
