" British Swimming and the ASA have committed themselves to helping to maintain and develop a strong and sustainable diving programme at Crystal Palace.

The national governing body is set to evaluate the current programme and will discuss how it can be taken forward to ensure a vibrant diving programme is in place for summer 2008 - when Crystal Palace is planned to re-open.

Working with the full co-operation of Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL), the London Development Agency (LDA) Sport England and the Crystal Palace Diving Institute, British Swimming will analyse best practice examples from established elite diving clubs - Southampton Diving Academy, the City of Sheffield, Plymouth Diving and the City of Leeds - to decide the best way to move the current programme forward."

"British Olympic legend Dame Kelly Holmes has officially opened the new £6m sports hall and sixth form centre at Tooting's Ernest Bevin College.

The new sporting facility boasts a six-court sports hall and competition-length swimming pool.

The 25 metre pool will be used by pupils during school hours and also by Leander swimming club. It will be open outside school hours for use by local people as part of the council's community swimming programme. "

" With 60 per cent of its hours of opening available to the wider community, Sherborne has at long last a sports facility for which it has yearned for years - a public swimming pool in all but name.

Now, completed on time and on budget, the stunning 25 metre, six-lane pool established at the Oxley Sports Centre, just off Bradford Road, not only gives Sherborne School for Girls a fabulous new facility but, in partnership with Sherborne Sports and Leisure Limited, one much sought after by the town and district.

Long-time enthusiasts suggest that Sherborne first tried to finance and establish a public pool in 1926, but failed. For years, local swimmers had to go elsewhere although eventually there was a local facility - the opportunity to use Sherborne School's open-air pool, especially during the summer vacation when responsibility for its operation was accepted by the then Sherborne Urban Council and, subsequently, the town council. Many of the town's children learned to swim there during the summer months, encouraged by Sherborne Rotary Club's annual junior gala at which they were rewarded for their achievements."

"Over 700 people have already signed a petition calling for Burnham-On-Sea's swimming pool to be saved from closure.

The signatures have been collected in the first three days of the campaign to save the Berrow Road facility from cost-cutting plans by Sedgemoor District Council.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last Wednesday how the cash-strapped council had announced plans to shut the Berrow Road pool by April 2008 because it is losing up to £250,000 a year. The proposals have been met with shock and dismay by pool users and local residents, who say a swimming facility is essential in Burnham."
