Shurely shome mishtake! we have heard of council officers claiming such initiatives were science-fiction pipe-dreams. Perhaps future proposals could see Council Chambers connected to Lido pipework.

"Mendip District Council and Avalon Leisure have teamed up with fruit cider-maker Brothers Drinks to warm Shepton Mallet's lido using recyled heat from the drinks factory."

    Update 25 May

"de Stafford Sports Centre’s pool in Caterham was temporarily closed on Friday 5 January due to ongoing problems controlling the temperature of the pool water, and it has  remained closed ever since.

The path to identifying the source of the pool leaks and temperature issues has been an arduous one.  Tandridge District Council, de Stafford School, the original builders of de Stafford Sports Centre and Tandridge Leisure, who manage the centre, have been working together to collect all the evidence concerning where the problems originate.

Investigations have included tests on the gullies around the pool itself, on the pool tank structure and also on other places that could be the cause of the leaks, such as the steps, the lights and the pool vacuum suction points.  Some poolside tiles have recently been lifted to allow inspection of the structure underneath.

The results of all tests will be taken to a meeting with the building contractors, Tandridge District Council, de Stafford School and Tandridge Leisure in the week commencing 4 June.

At this meeting it is expected that there will be agreement between all parties as to the work to be done and estimated time for re-opening.  Customers will be informed of the outcome at the centre and on the Tandridge Leisure website. Paul Clark, Tandridge Leisure’s Managing Director, said: `Tandridge Leisure exists to provide leisure opportunities for its members and users and share their frustrations about the lack of urgency shown in resolving the current situation.  We remain committed to working with de Stafford School, Tandridge District Council and the contractors to bring about a speedy and sustainable resolution.`"

Consultation about swimming pool refurbishment nowadays means "We are now ready to tell you formally that there will have to be luxury flats and you have to agree to it or you don't get somewhere to swim" ... as usual.

"THE people of Kentish Town will get the chance to have their say on the refurbishment of their historic Victorian baths today (Thursday 19/07/07).

Limbrick Limited Architecture and Design, which has been commissioned to transform Kentish Town baths into a 21st century leisure centre, will present the planning proposals at a meeting at 6.30pm at Kentish Town Library, Kentish Town Road.

The meeting has been organised by Camden Council's planning division to give people an opportunity to ask questions and comment ahead of the architect submitting an application.

It is expected that an application for planning permission will be submitted in September.

Camden Council will then formally consult with residents and the application will be considered by the development control committee.

The £25.3million proposals will see the Grade II listed building refurbished to include two swimming pools, a learner pool, gym and studio space. They also include plans for 10 flats and four town houses. "
