"Local campaigners are holding a consultation on Wednesday this week (January 18) which will feature a key note address from ex-sports minister Kate Hoey.

Goodhew has also added his voice to the campaign: "Well done to those people in Haggerston who are being proactive in their fight to reopen the Haggerston Baths. Our swimming baths are part of our communities. They enhance quality of life and are an essential part of what makes a desirable place to live.""

PEOPLE'S CONSULTATION ABOUT Haggerston Pool WEDNESDAY 18th JANUARY At the VLC (next to Haggerston Pool) on Whiston Road on Wednesday January 18th in the evening 5.30pm- 8.30pm

Local pool-campaigners have organised a People's Consultation about the future of Haggerston Pool. Hackney Council have made moves towards looking at how the pool can be re-opened. Please come along to help us demonstrate the level of support for the re-opening of the pool.

Speakers:

  • KATE HOEY (ex-Labour Govt Sports Minister and ex Hackney resident and councillor),
  • KIM WRIGHT (Hackney Council Director of Community and Leisure),
  • ELAINE BARRETT (paralympic gold medal winning swimmer - who trained in Haggerston Pool when it was open)
  • MIKE COYSH (Haggerston Pool Community Trust),
  • JIM ARMSTRONG (Laburnum Boat Club)
  • PATRICIA GRIFFIN (Primary Care Trust),
  • PHILIP POOLE (Met Police),
  • SUSAN STORRAR (Hackney Independent Living Team)
  • PLUS a showing of "THE PEOPLE'S VOICE", a short film with members of the community making their case for the re-opening of the baths and their pleas to the council to take action.
